The Seventy-Second Untying asked how a mistaken claim is corrected, calmly, by evidence. The Seventy-Third asks an older, more personal question: what happens when the very thing that once frustrated you — that refused to yield, to dissolve, to be reached — turns out to be exactly what makes you trustworthy?

73 ﹁ Tantalum and the Unfailing is the seventy-third of the ninety-five untyings of the Order of the Universe, and fresh ground. Its knot is the Unreachable — an eternal, unbridgeable distance between a seeker and what is sought, a curse of endless, frustrated craving. The untying is the Unfailing: the very same refusal to yield, recognized at last not as a curse but as steadfastness — the thing that does not corrode, does not fail, does not reject and is not rejected.

This is a full monograph of sixty-some pages with twelve engraved plates, continuing the World band's second tier — its own Paragraph of the Degree carrying translation in footnotes, and its own interlocking correspondence drawing a real, external tradition into relation with its chemistry and scripture.

The Mythological — the real 1802 history of tantalum, element seventy-three: Swedish chemist Anders Gustaf Ekeberg named it after Tantalus, condemned in Greek myth to stand in water he could never drink, because tantalum's own oxide resisted dissolving in every acid he tried — long confused with the similar niobium (named, fittingly, after Tantalus's daughter Niobe) until Heinrich Rose proved them distinct in 1844. The very inertness that once tantalized chemists now makes tantalum prized for its biocompatibility in surgical implants and its reliability in modern electronic capacitors.

The Spiritual — the preta, or "hungry ghost," of real Buddhist cosmology: a being of insatiable craving, vast belly and needle-thin throat, unable ever to satisfy its own hunger and thirst.

The Numerological — seventy-three's own digit-root: the higher-octave witness to Degree 1, The Monad, Division into Oneness — held honestly alongside the fact that the native name's own arithmetic does not repeat this echo.

The Developmental — the recognition that a quality once experienced as frustrating distance or refusal may, examined honestly, be exactly what makes a person trustworthy and unfailing.

The Operative — the discipline of leadership that learns to recognize a stubborn, unyielding quality as an asset rather than a flaw.
